Monitoring: Water Quality
Administered by the Utah Division of Water Quality
As Utah DWQ continues to import data into AWQMS, new processes are being developed for Quality Assurance and Quality Control. AWQMS users are encouraged to review their data sets thoroughly and understand the data limitations. While the initial priorities have been populating the database and establishing a routine update schedule, our review of the database implementation and data integrity will continue to be a focal point. Efforts to standardize data migrated from STORET into AWQMS will also be an ongoing effort. Users should review information provided on this Web site to help interpret their data findings. Please contact Utah DWQ if you have questions.

Understand the data available in AWQMS, and its limitations.
Limit your search to a specific time period. Our data files go back to 1974, but data is limited in the early years.
- Identify the monitoring locations sampled by DWQ to expedite your search for water quality data. The monitoring locations can be found at UDEQ's Interactive Map.
- Review monitoring plans to understand data collected.
- Search for specific characteristics or parameters in which you are interested to help minimize the amount of data to review.
Historically, the Division of Water Quality has utilized a STORET database for management of its water quality and biological data, and field parameters. In the fall of 2009, EPA discontinued support for data submissions via the distributed STORET database.
Visit the EPA Web server where you can download or view water quality data collected, maintained, and owned by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality prior to 2009.
EPA has since promoted the development of Exchange Network Nodes or Node Clients as part of the National Environmental Information Exchange Network for states to submit a wide range of environmental data to national repositories.
The Utah DWQ, in conjunction with the Exchange Network, has developed a data storage solution with the WQX schema known as the Ambient Water Quality Management System (AWQMS).
Utah's implementation of AWQMS includes ambient water monitoring data collected by the Utah Department of Environment Quality and its partners.
If you need help or have questions about the data, please contact Lenora Sullivan (801) 536-4367.
