The Utah Pollution Prevention (P2) Association is a non-profit organization loosely affiliated with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.
The P2 Utah Association began in 1991 with a DEQ Pollution Prevention grant from the Environmental Protection Agency. Its purpose is to find common ground between industry and regulators and identify pollution prevention projects in Utah.
The first chairperson, Shelly Cordon-Teusher of Utah Petroleum Association, concentrated on regulatory integration and problem solving; the P2 conference was started and the attendees toured area facilities. With the second chairperson, Allan Dalpais of Hill Air Force Base, the Association took more of an educational focus.
The Utah P2 Association Award Program and the Solvent Reduction Program began and 300 copies of a video highlighting four Utah companies were distributed. Today, the legacy of these early administrators carries on with the programs they created in education and outreach. The P2 Association continues to sponsor an annual awards recognition program and the Utah Pollution Prevention Conference.

Each year, the Utah P2 Association issues "Outstanding Achievement in Pollution Prevention Awards" to organizations for excellence in pollution reduction practices.
These awards recognize outstanding efforts that reduce risk to Utah's environment or to public health. This can be done through practices, projects or activities that reduce pollution at the source or remove materials from the waste cycle.
Pollution prevention uses source reduction techniques to reduce risk to public health, safety, welfare, and the environment. Pollution prevention avoids transferring waste from one environmental medium (air, land, water) to another. Treating existing waste, installing equipment to comply with pollution control regulations, and energy recovery are not considered pollution prevention and will not be eligible for this award. Projects that focus on the environmental benefits of a product or service are not eligible.
