Printing
We have designed this website to be printable, which means you may print any page simply by choosing "print" in your browser (usually found in the "File" menu at the top of most browsers). Pages printed from DEQ.utah.gov do not contain navigation, header, or footer elements, to conserve paper and printer ink.
Acronyms
DEQ.utah.gov uses several acronyms throughout our website. Most acronyms can be defined by simply placing your cursor over the actual word the first time the acronym appears on the page. Your cursor will change to a question mark to indicate that a definition is available when hovering your mouse over an acronym. To see an example, place your mouse over the following word: DEQ.

Search
DEQ currently uses Google to index and search our website. Only the DEQ.utah.gov domain is searchable from the DEQ site; however, each Division has its own search page to search their respective domain name.
Site Map & Index A-Z
In addition to our search page, we have created the DEQ Site Map and Index A-Z pages to help our users find the information they are looking for. The site map has a categorized list of every section of the DEQ Web site. The Index A-Z page lists common words and terms, as well as the definitions that may be helpful when trying to locate a particular area of interest.
DEQ.utah.gov was designed with accessibility and web standards in mind. We use the XHTML 1.0 Transitional document type (see http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/ for more information), and include links to skip navigation and content as needed for screen readers and other assistive technology. Our pages are validated using the W3C standards (see http://www.w3.org/ for more information). DEQ.utah.gov is also designed to conform to Section 508 standards (see http://www.section508.gov/ for more information). Cascading Style Sheets are used to accomplish the layout, look, and feel of DEQ.utah.gov for both screen and print output. DEQ.utah.gov uses several formats for documents throughout the site which may require downloading "plugins" or "readers" for your browser. Plugins and readers are additional software used in conjunction with your web browser in order to display certain file types.

Flash/Flashpaper
The Macromedia Flash Player is a multimedia and application player created and distributed by Macromedia. It runs SWF files which can be created by the Macromedia Flash authoring tool, Macromedia Flex or a number of other Macromedia and third party tools.
Flash files are usually embedded or linked from pages within our site. The embedded Flash files (for example, the AQI gauge) will prompt users to install the Flash plugin if it is not already installed. For all other Flash and FlashPaper files not embedded directly on the page, files are denoted with the following icon: 
Java Applets
A Java class that is loaded and run by an already-running Java application such as a Web browser. Java applets can be downloaded and executed by a Web browser capable of interpreting Java, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Java applets are frequently used to add multimedia effects and interactivity to Web pages, such as video displays, animations, calculators, real-time clocks, and interactive games. Java Applets are used mainly for graphing and mapping purposes on our web site.
PDF
The Portable Document Format is a file format that has captured all the elements of a printed document as an electronic image that you can view, navigate, print, or forward to someone else. PDF files are created using Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat Capture, or similar products. To view and use the files, you need the free Acrobat Reader, which you can easily download. Once you've downloaded the Reader, it will start automatically whenever you want to look at a PDF file.
