July 2, 2001
I want to invite you and/or your representative to participate in a work group
that will explore the development of an environmental performance track program
for Utah.
The performance track concept encourages and rewards environmental performance.
To date, thirteen states have worked with stakeholders to develop and implement
their own programs. Although each program is tailored to the unique needs and
business climate of each area, all share a systematic approach to managing environmental
responsibilities and include steps to reduce and prevent pollution. The EPA
has a national program and has endorsed the concept of states developing their
own programs.
We would like to organize a focus group, consisting of representatives from
industry and other regulated entities, to see if such a program would be of
interest and viable here in Utah. If it is, we would like to hear what you think
it would take to make it work.
Please join us for an initial discussion on Tuesday, July 17 at 3 p.m. in Room 101 of the DEQ offices, 168 North 1950 West (Building 2) in Salt Lake City. At this meeting, we will present an overview of the performance track concept, listen to comments and concerns, and discuss a schedule for the project. Our goal is to develop a partnership to enhance environmental protection and recognize outstanding efforts that benefit the environment. Please RSVP to Renette Anderson at (801) 536-4478 or by e-mail at randerso@deq.state.ut.us.
Best Regards,
Dianne R. Nielson, Ph.D.
