People need livable
communities and a high quality of life. The attractiveness and appeal of older
small towns and the development of newer communities demonstrate the need
for certain sustainable characteristics to be planned for within a community.
Lively downtown areas, streets designed for pedestrians as much as automobiles
as well as a scale and pattern of development that allows us to meet everyday
needs by walking. All of these are key factors in ensuring cities provide
a high quality of life.
