Generator Information

Planning to rent power generation equipment to address your community's or industry's needs? Make sure all necessary air quality permits are in place. The permits will spell out the conditions of use. If they are not in place beforehand, you may not be able to use the generators as intended, in spite of what may have been represented to you.

Take time to find out the following:

  1. Before renting generators, ask to see the Air Quality Approval Order, the Title Four Exemption, and the Relocation Notice. These documents will allow the temporary units to be relocated to your site and used.
  2. If these documents are produced, take time to read them and make sure you understand the conditions under which the generator or generators can be placed and used. The limitations you want to look for are:
    • how many units can be placed at a site; and
    • how many hours they can be operated.

You also need to know if you are in an air quality attainment or non-attainment area (generally Salt Lake, Utah, and Davis Counties and parts of Tooele and Weber Counties). Make sure you check the conditions in the permit according to which area you are in. Non-attainment areas will have greater restrictions placed on use than do attainment areas.
